It’s Like An Island Paradise Except It’s Out In The Middle Of The Ocean!

In the immortal words of Neo… Whoa. My my my, has it been a long time since I’ve felt any sort of motivation to talk at you kids. I think it’s pretty safe to say that this has been the longest I’ve ever gone without updating. So long, in fact, that you guys even stopped harassing me about it! Up until recently, when the harassment started anew. I even made a joke at my expense by making the subtitle of a forum something to the effect of “In other news, planetsuper.com still not updated!” Well, folks, that’s all changed. At least, for the rest of this year, anyway. I’m sure come January 2007, the site probably still won’t be updated and I’ll be whining about you guys whining about the site never getting updated. Alas, I stray from anything resembling interesting discussion. Onward, my pretties!
I guess the most major development over the last 8 months (*snicker*) was that my old Cavalier finally up and quit on me. You all know the story by now, but I was driving to work one Friday morning and I get to the first stoplight on the island and the engine overheating light comes on. By the way, that was one thing I never liked about the Cavalier: it didn’t have a temperature gauge. It was either “Hey, all right” or “Oh, crap, I’m too hot!” I digress. Anyway, so I’m coming up to the stoplight and the light comes on. Luckily, I’ve got a green to turn left and I do so and am able to get it parked in a parking lot, where I let it sit for a little while and check the water. k, it’s a bit low so I whip out my trusty antifreeze bottle filled with water and top it off. It burns oil, too, so I top that off and hope all is well. I start it back up and everything’s hunky dory. I get going and make it most of the way to work and the light comes back on. I pull off and before I even get stopped, it goes back off. Rinse. Repeat. By the time I finally get to work, it’s pretty well shot. Long story short, it finally died on me after almost 8 years plus the 9 it already had in it when I got it. I think we got our money’s worth out of that car, considering it only cost $2500 in the first place.
Thus began the search for a new car. After a couple weeks of driving my dad’s (at the time) spare car, I pretty much had it narrowed down to a white 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GT and a silver 2-door Chevy Blazer. We went and looked at the Blazer and I gotta say, it was pretty nice and was definitely looking like the one. After checking out a 2001 Grand Prix and a 2001 Bonneville, we finally got to the dealership with the white Grand Prix. Only to find that a woman was literally inside signing the paperwork to buy it for her granddaughter. GAH!!! Well, all was not lost as they had a gold Grand Prix of the same year at the same place. The only reason I was looking at the white one in the first place was because it had 5,000 fewer miles. So we started looking at the gold one and turns out, it was far more car than the white one. They were the same trim level but the gold one had nearly every single available option on it. After pondering the decision and crunching every number I could think of, the decision was made to go with the gold one so we went back out Monday morning and ended up getting it for $11,400. I gotta say, after a few months, I definitely made the right decision. It’s comfortable, it’s got power, it drives well, it’s great on the interstate. I’m a happy camper. I’m sure most of you have probably already seen this picture of it, but if you haven’t, click here to see my ride.
As I mentioned in my last post, we’ve been playing Battlefield 2. If anything, we’ve been playing a lot more than we were when I last updated. I think we probably get in at least an hour most days, if not more. We’re also getting a lot better at scoring points so we’ve finally come out of the depths of the ranks to at least get to something fairly respectable if not astounding. Chris and I are both Gunnery Sergeants now, slogging our way from 8000 points to 20,000 for the promotion to First Sergeant. Unless Chris gets on it and gets his knife badge or he’s headed for Master Sergeant. Better get on that, son. Nathan and Rolando are also both nearing their next promotion and right now, it’s a battle to see who gets where first: Rolando to Sergeant or Nathan to Staff Sergeant. Our teamwork and communication is getting to be pretty decent, too. We play pretty well as a squad, I gotta say. Good times are had by all.
Guess the final note here in what’s become a somewhat lengthy update is that I’m finally looking to scratch the “I want a new computer” itch. My current rig was good while it lasted but it’s really starting to show its age and it’s time to put together a new, modern box so I can really play games the way they were meant to be played, rather than with all the settings turned down and a big resolution because my video card can’t push my LCD to 1280. I’m looking at putting together a pretty respectable gaming box with some AMD processor - still can’t make up my mind which one - at least 1GB of RAM, and, going back to the nVidia camp, a 7900GT. Ought to be a pretty solid gaming system that will play anything out today at pretty high settings. Looking to pull the trigger on that one before Monday of next week so the stuff starts arriving during the week and I have it here by Friday so I can spend the time over the weekend putting it together and playing with my new toy.
I suppose I should stop there. I guess that was a fairly satisfying update. Was it as good for you as it was for me?
