Blackmailing A Pervert To Facilitate Underage Gambling… How Could This Not Work Out?

Well well well, another update. Hot damn. I was kind of inspired to make this update as I was reading a thread over at SA. Here’s an excerpt:
Growing up in Base Housing, I also did not experience racism. The military is very integrated, and race isn’t even really acknowledged. The housing I lived in was officer’s housing for large families, and any time a new family moved in the gang of kids would wander over and inquire about the newcomer’s children, and they’d join our roving gang. There were no fences, there was a huge field behind my house with a swingset, space to play baseball or football, and a steep hill for sledding in the winnter.
Now, just ignore the part about the racism cuz that’s not really what inspired me to write. This was taken from a thread where the poster was like “Nebraska, Iowa, and Kansas don’t suck!” Everyone else, of course, disagreed for one reason or another. Well, dammit, I’m here to defend Nebraska. I kind of have a feeling that a few other people that might read this probably agree.
No, there might not be as much to do as there is in New York or something, but I was never really totally at a loss for things to do when I lived there, and I was never much for going out and doing stuff. Maybe that’s because I was always at band practice… Haha. But there’s the zoo, which yeah, you can only do so many times, but it’s still cool. There’s Rosenblatt and the College World Series. Only comes once a year, but it’s damn sweet. I don’t think I’ve ever really been, but from my understanding, the Old Market was spiffy. Again, never been, but what about the Ranch Bowl? k, maybe that’s my whole list of things to do in Nebraska (let’s hear some of you other Nebraska peeps chime in), but what I really wanted to comment on was the bit about the gang of neighborhood kids. Maybe it’s a military thing, I don’t know, but there was always kids in the neighborhood to play with during the summer. I remember going out to play and coming home when it got dark and always wanting to stay out a little longer to catch the fireflies. We’d climb trees, rollerblade, ride bikes, play basketball, baseball, hacky sack out in the street (and we never had to worry about cars flying through the streets), the list goes on. When we moved to Columbia five years ago, my sister claimed the bedroom on the front of the house, fully expecting it to be of some use like it was in Nebraska. My brother and I had the front bedrooms in Nebraska and we could always see what was going on out in the street with the other kids. So my sister claims the front bedroom, only to be disappointed that the only thing to watch is the people across the street drive fast. No kids at all. No roving gang of kids out having a good time. That doesn’t happen anywhere in Columbia from my experience. I’ve seen a fair bit of the area, as well, from delivering pizza, and I honestly can’t recall seeing a group of 5 or 6 kids out playing. And this was northeast Columbia, where it’s reasonably nice and safe. Maybe it is a military thing since there were so many families that had several kids so there was always someone close to the right age to play with. I think our street alone in Nebraska must have had at least a dozen kids that lived on it. And every one of them would be out playing. And that was just our street alone; we knew kids from several streets over in both directions. I think our street in Columbia might have like 3.
Hmmm, well, I’ve kind of run out of gas, so I think I’m going to wrap it up. Let’s put it this way: If I ever have kids, I’d seriously like to raise them in Bellevue. I had a great time there as a kid and maybe in high school, I sometimes thought it was boring, but when I visited there last summer, it made me realize how much the area really does have to offer. And now I’m definitely out of gas. Thoughts?

What what what? An update? And a new site design, to boot. And a new forums theme to match. Damn I’m good. And stuff. There are still a few minor things that I need to adjust in the forums theme since it bases a fairly substantial portion of the layout settings on the default forum theme, which is the old theme. So there’s a few things that won’t look quite right (I think I’ve gotten the most-used pages ready, though, so you may not even notice) until I have a chance to go through the forums and change a few things here and there. I like the new design a lot, though. We’ll see how long this one lasts, haha. I think it’s a better design than the old one, so it wouldn’t surprise me if it lasts longer based solely on that.
Anyway, the parental units, siblings, and one set of grandparents were in town today. Been a couple months since I’d visited with the family and it was also the first time since the last time they were here that anyone other than the apartment maintenance staff was inside my apartment. That’s kind of depressing, but what can I do? At any rate, it was nice to have company for a day. I ended up with a fridge and freezer full of my grandma’s delicious Italian cooking, as well. Excellent.
Been working hard on racing and improving my laptimes at Spa in GTR. I finally went ahead and just bought the game a couple weeks ago and i don’t think there’s been a day since I got it that I’ve not played. Sweetness. Only problem with the game is that I’m still 9 seconds off the best hotlap times. I don’t know how I’m going to ever find 9 seconds in my laps. Gonna be really tough.
I got a new router, in the hope that it would fix the damn connection issues I’ve had with Hargray since I moved in. A couple months ago, there was a sale on a Linksys 802.11b router for like $5, so I had my dad snag one at Best Buy and he brought it down today when they were here. After they left, I swapped out the Netgear that I had and had been working (except for the dropped connections) for a few weeks now and set the Linksys up and configured everything up (using WPA-PSK, too, which I was glad to see that the router supported out of the box) and it was working fine. Until it started dropping me, as well. It’s all the wireless stuff. I’m telling you, networking is the biggest misnomer ever. It’s also a strange batch of evil witchcraft. I think maybe I’m going to take my socks off, stand on my head, and tug on my left earlobe to see if I can get it all working. Maybe that will appease the networking gods. Anyway, I got pissed off at the Linksys router and switched the Netgear back in, expecting everything to go back to working as it was. Did that happen? Hell no. Like I said, an evil force is afoot here. So now I can’t get the wireless working on my laptop again, which really pisses me off since it was working not 5 hours ago before I started fucking with it. *sigh* I don’t know anymore.
Perhaps this update will be the first of what I may try to do: more frequent updates. I know I’ve said that several times, but what excuse do I really have? Not much. I guess the only excuse I’d have for not updating is the fact that very little of any importance or excitement actually happens in my life, so the updates may degenerate into my musings about the squirrels getting it on outside my office window. Who knows.
